Olivia Wenscombe (Scarlett Johansson) is the assistant in the stage magic at the beginning of the movie. But after a fatal accident she becomes the assistant to Robert Angier, and also his lover. But when Angier's obsesses get in the way, she is called upon to steal Alfred Borden's diary. After doing so, she falls in love with Borden and becomes more or less a double agent.
