Physical Best class is a year long elective for any sophomore, junior or senior. It is designed to meet the needs of our school's advanced physical education students and athletes. The class provides a structured, sport specific training progam for boys and girls. Three days a week the students are lifting weights, concentrating on gaining muscular strength and muscular endurance. Tuesdays and Thursdays are fitness activity days. The class will work on agility drills, plyometric skills, speed work, and core strength. Fitness testing will be done several times during each semester, testing a battery of sport related skills. Students are sure to see improvement in their sport performance. By the end of the year, all junior and senior students will have a final project. For example, each student may design a personal fitness plan, research a muscle group for specific exercises, or design a training program for their sport. Students will also be asked to read various fitness related articles. Grading consists of a combination of activity, fitness scores, and written work. |
