Four
choirs meet during the school day; they are Freshman Treble Choir, Concert
Choir, Advanced Treble Choir and A Cappella Choir. These four choirs also
perform outside of regular school hours. A brief description of these
activities is listed below. Additional information on these Choirs can
also be found in the ACHS
Curriculum Guide.
Two
extra-curricular audition choirs (Madrigal Ensemble
and Jazz Choir) meet one night a week after school
on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Additional rehearsal times are
scheduled prior to performances.
Freshman
Treble Choir
A daily introductory choir with no audition, designed for freshman girls.
Members perform in three concerts and the Junior/Senior Choral Festival
each year. Options in the class include participation in solo and ensemble
contest, the Musical, the Winter Holiday Extravaganza, and the Spring
Jazz Festival.

Concert
Choir
An auditioned choir made of freshman through seniors. Members perform
in three concerts and the Junior/Senior Choral Festival each year. Options
in the class include participation in solo and ensemble contest, the Musical,
the Winter Holiday Extravaganza, and the Spring Jazz Festival.
Group auditions in February

Advanced
Treble Choir
A daily select female glee of excellent voices which performs 3-6 times
a year. Members perform in three concerts and the Junior/Senior Choral
Festival each year. Additionally, the Ensemble attends Organizational
Contest, and is expected to participate in the Winter Holiday Extravaganza
and the Spring Jazz Festival. Options in the class include participation
in solo and ensemble contest, IMEA Festivals, and the Musical. This group
takes a trip every other year. Attendance at Summer Camp is highly recommended.

A
Cappella Choir
A select choir of 30-40 members, that acts as the touring choir. Members
perform in three concerts and the Junior/Senior Choral Festival each year.
Additionally, the Ensemble attends Organizational Contest, and is expected
to participate in the Winter Holiday Extravaganza and the Spring Jazz
Festival. Options in the class include participation in solo and ensemble
contest, IMEA Festivals, University honor choirs and the Musical. This
group takes a trip every other year. Attendance at Summer Camp is highly
recommended.

Jazz
Choir
A select jazz and pop ensemble made up of music readers on microphones.
Members must be in one of the curricular choirs. This group performs regularly
throughout the year and practices on Thursday nights. The group performs
at concerts, competes at contest and attends festivals. Members are expected
to participate in the Winter Holiday Extravaganza and the Spring Jazz
Festival. Attendance at Summer Camp and lock-in is expected. This group
takes a trip every other year.
Group auditions in May.
Audition dates for the 2006/07 school year: May
25, 4-7 p.m., Choir Room. Please prepare a pop, jazz, or Broadway piece.
You don't need to memorize the tune. You will also scat to a 12 bar blues
progression, and be asked to learn and perform a short selection with
the rest of the auditioning performers. Sight-reading and tonal memory
is also tested.

Madrigal
Ensemble
Specializing in madrigals and a cappella pop, these select 16-20 members
meet Wednesday evenings throughout the year. Madrigals are the busiest
of the performing choral ensembles. The group performs at concerts, competes
at contest and attends festivals. Members are expected to participate
in the Winter Holiday Extravaganza and the Spring Jazz Festival. Attendance
at Summer Camp and lock-in is expected. This group takes a trip every
other year.

Audition dates for the 2006/07 school year: May
23 & 24, 7-10 p.m., Choir Room. You will sing My Country Tis of Thee.
You will be asked to learn and perform a round with the rest of the auditioning
performers. Sight-reading and tonal memory is also tested.
