Environmental
Club invents a man to increase awareness in the amount of garbage
used at the Antioch Community High School and at home.
"A
lot of people throw away cans," said Lauren Wennstrom, senior
at Antioch High School. The purpose of the recycling man is to help
students, and people in general to recycle more. People do not realize
the amount of trash that is formed on a daily basis.
Recycling
Man is constructed from school garbage cans and the students homes.
He is made up of chicken wire, stuffed with newspapers mostly collected
from the Tom Tom's, hot glue guns, and a wooden prop that was built
by Church.
It
hangs in the school cafeteria from the ceiling by wires. "Hopefully
people will be thinking more about it," says Wennstrom and perhaps
students and people will start to recycle their cans more than they
already do.
Not
everyone at the high school recycles their cans even when the recyclable
bin is direct next to the garbage can. The club hopes that by looking
at the Recycling Man people will decide to recycle their cans instead
of throwing them away.
Trying
to get students at the high school to recycle more and "(we)
hope the administration will expand recycling to plastic," stated
Wennstrom.
