Anne
Frank tells important story of teen’s ordeal
 Despite
the heart-wrenching events that are central to the plot of The Diary
of Anne Frank, director Dan Swartz says he believes its central message
is that people are good at heart. Audiences will have the chance to see
for themselves when the play opens Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and runs nightly
through Saturday.
Laura
Balinski stars in the title role, with Kaitlen Quist and David Whitacre
taking on the roles of Anne’s parents. Megan McGrath is the assistant
director, and Amanda Haverick is the stage manager.
The Frank family
goes into hiding to escape the Nazis in 1942. They and 25 other Jews living
together in seclusion are betrayed and sent off to concentration camps.
Despite the challenges
of internalizing these characters, “the kids have worked hard,”
Swartz said, explaining that the cast of 10 students wants people to hear
Anne’s story.
Admission to the
performance is $2 for students and $3 for the general public. |
