Samantha Abear, Taylor Meyer, Kelsey Schreiber Abear wins first place in VOD contest
 Samantha Abear, Taylor Meyer, and Kelsey Schreiber received awards for the Voice of Democracy speech and essay contest sponsored by the VFW.
 Junior Samantha Abear was awarded first place and received a $300 check. Her entry advanced her to the District competition, where she received second place. Junior Kelsey Schreiber was second runner-up and received a $100 cash award. Junior Taylor Meyer was first runner-up and received a $200 cash award.
 Ninety-two ACHS students entered the contest. Thanks to all the students who participated in this year’s Voice of Democracy speech and essay competition.

Amber Dalgaard Dalgaard named honorable mention to leadership team
 Senior Amber Dalgaard has been named honorable mention to the Daily Herald's Lake County Leadership Team for 2010-2011. Each high school, public and private, in the newspaper's coverage area was invited to submit no more than two students as nominees.

 Her community service credits include Bible school counselor, St. Peter’s Church; Illinois Leadership Seminar; National Honor Society; and the New Principal Committee.

ACDA ACDA names three students to honors choir
Congratulations Trevor Olsen, Stephanie Kowalcyzk and Amanda Dahlem for being selected to the American Choral Directors Association's Honors Choirs. Trevor was selected for the Men's Choir selected from over 800 applicants nationwide, while Stephanie and Amanda were selected for the Women's Choir from over 1,400 applicants nationwide.
 The American Choral Directors Association is a nonprofit music-education organization which promotes excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. ACDA membership consists of choral directors who represent more than one million singers across the United States. ACDA members teach choral music in public and private schools - kindergarten through senior high school - and at the college and university levels.
IMEA IMEA names five ACHS students to honors band, choir
Congratulations to ACHS Band and Choir students selected by IMEA. They will perform with dozens of other talented and hard-working students from around the Chicagoland area in a concert this November.
District VII Band: Angela Barone, Brian Chivers and Alex Hoffman were selected for the Illinois Music Educators Association District VII Honor Band. 
 District VII Choir: Stephanie Kowalczyk and Trevor Olsen were selected for the Illinois Music Educators Association District VII Honor choir.

Dominique Bessette Bessette named Scholastic All-American
 Senior Dominique Bessette has been named to USA Swimming's 2009-2010 Scholastic All-American Team. Each year, USA Swimming recognizes its members who excel both in the classroom and in the pool. The Scholastic All-America Team is made up of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and who have achieved the required time standard in a single event.
 Dominique has qualified for the IHSA State Swimming Meet the past three years in six events, medaling once.
