Kolpanen chosen for U.S. Army All-American Band
Senior D.J. Kolpanen has been selected for the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Marching Band, one of only 125 musicians nationwide to be chosen. He'll play at halftime of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 7 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
Members of the band are selected by the National Association for Music Education and are nominated by their individual marching band directors during the student's junior year. Nominees audition in the spring and are notified of their selection in June.
D.J. was recognized on October 27 at an afternoon program by the ACHS Marching Band, under the direction of Michael Riggs, and the U.S. Army.
The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school football game in the nation. Produced by All American Games, this bowl game features the nation's top high school senior football players and marching musicians. Students selected as All-American Marching Band members receive an all-expenses-paid trip to San Antonio to participate in the halftime performance. |

Two seniors are National Merit Commended Students
Two ACHS seniors, Will Thornton and Kyler Ward, have been named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation is being presented to both students.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 PSAT test.
"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," according to the National Merit Scholarship Program. "We hope this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success." |
